“I have fought the good fight; I have finished the race; I have kept the faith.”
2 Timothy 4:7
On May 12, 1933, in Plaquemine, Louisiana, the Lord blessed the union of Ernest and Mary Ellis-Vessel with a beautiful baby girl, Dorothy Walsh. Dorothy was the second of ten children born to this union. She was called home to be with the Lord on August 31, 2020.
Dorothy was educated in the public school system of Iberville Parish in Plaquemine, Louisiana. She moved to Houston, Texas, in 1951 and starting working for Texas Children’s Hospital and in 1965 she starting working for General Electric Phone Division that later became AT&T, serving for over 30 years.
First and foremost, Dorothy was a Christian. She loved God and accepted Christ at a young age and was baptized at Greater Ebenezer Baptist Church in Plaquemine, Louisiana. This was the start of a long spiritual relationship with the Lord. When she moved to Houston, she became a member of Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church. She was an active member and a faithful servant of her church.
Dorothy was a devoted mother, a beloved daughter, a loving sister and a favorite aunt, a special cousin and an excellent friend. She will always be remembered for her unwavering faith in God, her willingness to extend a helping hand and her unique personality.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest Vessel Sr., and Mary Vessel, her son, Rodney Walsh and two brothers, Fredrick Vessel, Ernest Vessel, Jr. and two sisters Sarah Mae Vessel and Barbara Vessel-Doyle. She leaves to celebrate her life and mourn her passing, her son, Reginald Rashad El-Amin Walsh of Houston, Texas, grandchildren; Kwabena Walsh, Shah Walsh, and Nakia Jelks, all of Houston, Texas; Shamar Walsh of Atlanta Georgia, her sisters and brothers: Naomi Vessel, Leroy Vessel (Henrietta), Earl Vessel, all of Plaquemine, Louisiana and Carolyn Gayle of Houston Texas, and Mary Louise (Larry) of Inglewood, California; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, close friends and her extended family of Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church.
