Dorothy Lee Sims was born in Vicksburg, Mississippi on October 29, 1934 to Erwin and Ardela Miles. As a young child the family moved to Houston, Texas where she attended school throughout her young years. She graduated from George Washington Carver High School in 1952. She was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, Reverend Brooks Pastor. At the age of 19 Dorothy Miles met and married her husband James Sims. To the union of James and Dorothy Sims was born Linda. Dorothy Sims was a dedicated bus driver for 15 years at the YWCA of Houston and further continued to drive for the next 16 years for the Jewish Community Center where she retired at the age of 75. She then resumed working part-time as a provider for Creation Living Center until her health declined. For the past 15 years Dorothy Sims has been faithful and diligent in Zion Temple Church as a strong soldier for Christ, even on her sick bed she continued to be a witness of Christ. She is preceded in death by her parents Erwin and Ardela Miles and her grandson Raymond Mims Jr. Dorothy leaves to cherish her memories; her husband James Sims, her “beautiful’ daughter Linda (Arnold) Jones, grandchildren; LaKeesha (Antwan) Minor and Denetria (Derrick) Atkins, four great-grandchildren; Eryn, DeIveon, Jadarius and Derrick Jr., godsons Michael Lowe and Jacob Nichols Jr., three sisters; Fannie Murray, Gloria (Wash) Dorsey and Billy Harris of Vicksburg, Mississippi, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Along with a very special friend “dtr” Gwen( Edward) Sam.
