Dorothy was born July 8, 1931, to Stroud and Vic Haney, in Dalhart, Texas. She grew up in the panhandle of Texas and in North East New Mexico. As a child, she lived through the Dust Bowl and the Great Depression both of which were factors in shaping her life. She attended many schools in Texas and New Mexico but arrived back to Dalhart for Junior High and High School.
She married John Scott Martin in December, 1950, just before he was inducted into the Army, during the Korean War. She joined him at Ft. Smith, Arkansas and later in Ft. Riley, Kansas, where her Twin daughters were born. The family later moved to Corpus Christi, Texas, where their son was born.
The family returned to Dalhart for a short period of time until John Scott accepted a job with Pritchard and Abbott. The family moved throughout the state while working for P&A. Dorothy worked part-tine for P&A and was involved with PTO at their children’s school, worked many years as room mother for her children’s classes. Following Amarillo, they moved to Corpus Christi where Dorothy was a volunteer in the schools. In 1968, the family moved to Pasadena, Texas, where her children graduated from Deer Park HS.
After 33 years of marriage John Scott passed away and for 15 years was a Widow. During that time she accepted a job at Texas Independence Bank where she was a Secretary and assistant to the Vice-President. While working at the bank, she became an Ambassador to the Deer Park Chamber of Commerce, where she worked on many committees and was named Ambassador of the Year.
Dorothy married John I. Oliver and moved into his home in Deer Park. They spent 15 years together. Dorothy became a member of the Roving Gypsies, an RV group that traveled together. She and John traveled across the U.S., together and always enjoyed their many trips to Branson. John preceded her in death.
Shortly after celebrating her 90th Birthday, Dorothy learned for the 4th time that she again had Lymphoma. She was moved to the Spring Area into New Haven, now Countryside Assisted Living.
