She departed this life on Thursday, December 9, 2021, at the age of 89.
Although her death saddens us, we know she lived a good life and is now rejoicing with Jesus in Heaven.
Dorothy Mitchell was born on December 17, 1931, to Nora Alberta Williams at Jefferson Davis Hospital in Houston, Texas. Dorothy was an only child and loved being the center of attention.
In her early years of education, Dorothy attended public school in Houston and graduated with a GED. Dorothy went on to pursue her dreams as a cosmetologist by receiving her license from Franklin Beauty College.
In 1953, Dorothy met Clyde B. Harris. They fell in love and decided to start a family. To this family one son Darrell and two daughters Mala & Arvis were born. Dorothy later reunited with her high school sweetheart Roger Gloston and gave birth to her baby son Marquis McCarter.
Dorothy went on to have a phenomenal career as a top hair stylist for some of the elite hair salons around Houston. Once she retired from being a stylist, Dorothy started working for the City of Houston. She dedicated fifteen years of service to the city until she retired on December 6, 1996.
Dorothy was a loving, caring wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Although she was small in stature, she carried a tall presence. Dorothy told it like it was and believed in keeping it real. She had a passion for fashion, shopping, music, dancing and this same spirit lives in all her kids. Her religion was front and center in her life and she truly loved the Lord.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband John Mitchel and her daughter Mala Smith.
She leaves to cherish her memories her daughter Arvis Kennedy, her (2) sons Darrell Williams and Marquis McCarter and two beautiful and sweet daughters-in-laws Veronica McCarter and Mary Jean Williams. Grandchildren: Torrance Williams, Tarius Williams, Charlie Kennedy, Jr., Darrell Williams, Jr., Nyra Kotler, Myra Poullard, Jamie Teron. Great Grandchildren: Zhane Deloach, Terre Tibbs, Nia Tibbs, Morgan Williams, McArthur Matson and Lawrence Williams, JaQuinn Smith, Jalynn Smith. Great Great Grandchildren: Jamire & Jaliyah Caldwell, Jalyn Smith.
The wisdom and guidance she shared with us will continue to carry us through the joys and challenges that life has to offer.
