Dorothy (Doris) Stanek Grant, age 89, passed away on Saturday, February 11 at the Methodist Texsan Heart Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. She was born to the late John Stanek and Ella Darilek Stanek in Shiner, Texas on June 18, 1927. Doris was married to the late Kenneth Malcomb Grant on August 1, 1949. They were married for 61 years prior to his passing.
Doris is survived by her children, Lynn McHenry and husband Mike, of San Saba, TX, her son Douglas Grant of Vail, Co., and her daughter Terry and husband, Danny, of Charlotte, NC. She was very devoted to her grandchildren: Heather McHenry of San Antonio and her children, Sophie, and Jack; Sean McHenry and his wife Vanessa of Naples, FL and his children, Sean Michael, Marsanne and Vivian; Michael Reeve and wife Kristan of Greensboro, NC and children, Nolan and Asher; and Ryan Reeve of Spring Lake, MI.
Doris is also survived by her brother, Victor Stanek, of Houston and his children and grandchildren, as well as the children and grandchildren of Lillie Mae & Rudy Schoenfeld, and Arnold and Ruby Stanek. She loved and was proud of every one of her nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her sister, Lillie Mae Schoenfeld of Moulton, her brother, Arnold Stanek of Shiner and grandson, Michael McHenry, Jr.
Doris spent most of her adult life in Houston and turned her lifelong love of bowling into a career as manager of the Palace Bowling Lanes. She organized countless leagues and tournaments and was especially proud of teaching many Houston children to bowl. She also loved to organize bowling events to raise money for the Shriners Hospital.
Doris is remembered by family and friends as a person devoted to her family, friends and faith and someone who lived her life with boundless joy and an interest in other people.
The visitation is from 9 am until 10 am on Friday, February 17 at the Forest Park Funeral Home Chapel on Westheimer, with the service following.
