Obituary of Dorothy Jean Ferley
IN THE CARE OF

Memorial Oaks Funeral Home & Cemetery

Dorothy Jean Ferley entered God’s Kingdom on February 26, 2025.

She was born in Ypsilanti, Michigan on January 19, 1929 to Calvin and Anna (Mertz) Meredith.

Dorothy graduated from Sexton High School then continued her education, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from Michigan State University in 1952. After graduation Dorothy married Richard and moved to Houston, shortly thereafter founding D&D Drapery Company. Dorothy was a dedicated and loving mother, raising four children. In addition, Dorothy supported Richard, handling much of the payroll for D&D Drapery which is still family run today.

Dorothy was proceeded in death by her husband of 64 years, Richard J Ferley, and sister Ruth A Farmer. Dorothy is survived by daughter Karen, sons Craig and his wife Maria, David and his wife Monica, Scott and his wife Sandra; grandchildren Clark and his wife Tricia, Meredith, Eric, Justin and his wife Katie, Michelle; and great grandchildren Everett, Bowie, Waylon, and Margaret.

Dorothy was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, later becoming an avid member of Second Baptist Church where she enjoyed her bible study class and working in the church office. Dorothy appreciated playing bridge with her friends, loved being involved in her children’s lives, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Our family is grateful to know Dorothy is finally at peace. Dorothy lived a long and full life and will be forever loved and remembered.

A small memorial service for family members will be conducted at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home.
