Doris Louise Redding, 80, of Houston, Texas went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, July 20, 2010. Doris was born in Dallas, Texas to Annie and John Walton Hicks. She grew up and went to school in Dallas and TSCW. She married Philip Wayne Redding on February 26, 1955. The family moved to Houston in 1968 where she raised her children. Doris worked in the Houston library system for many years until retirement. She was an active member at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church in the Spring Branch area. She was an officer in the Daughters of the King and served the church through many capacities. Doris loved watching all types of sports but especially loved the Houston Astros and Dallas Cowboys. She was an avid reader and found enjoyment in all types of nature to include bird watching, flowers, camping, butterflies and visiting Colorado on family summer vacations. Doris had a wonderful sense of humor that seemed to transcend age. She found great pleasure in spending quality time with her grandchildren. When they were small she was a very hands on grandmother who played on the floor with them and read them books daily.
Doris is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Philip Wayne Redding, Sr., son Philip Jr. and wife, Kim, daughter Ann and husband Michael McManus, grandchildren Philip III (Trey) Redding, Matthew Redding and Kristen Ann Redding, brother John Walton Hicks and wife Sandra and many other family and friends.
