Doris Grace Fogle was born May 23, 1939 in Houston, Texas to TR and Gracie Fogle. She was the seventh of nine children. She married Kenneth Bruce Owens, the love of her life and also from Houston, on December 16, 1961. They were blessed with two children, Kenneth Mark and Julie Denise.
Doris was extremely artistic and enjoyed painting, sewing and quilting, crochet, cross stitching, embroidery, and macrame, and created many beautiful projects in each of these. She loved being outdoors and she especially loved gardening and growing her many beautiful flowers, which she often traded with her friends, neighbors, and daughter.
Doris had many passions in life, including traveling, and together with Ken they traveled to all fifty states and over 63 countries. She enjoyed spending time at their lake house on Canyon Lake in the Texas hill country, which became a favorite place for family vacations. She passed her love of travel on to both of her children.
Doris loved to cook and food was a way of showing love. It showed in every dish that she made. She took immense pleasure in sharing her special dishes with others.
Doris loved socializing with others, especially with her family, relatives, neighbors, and church friends. She never met a stranger and could learn a person’s life story in under five minutes, which she was often teased about by her children. She was genuinely interested in every person she met, and never forgot even the smallest detail about them.
But Doris’s favorite thing to do was to take care of others. She was an extremely caring and compassionate person, and when she knew others were sick or in need, she was the first to be there to help. That help came in the form of food, flowers, friendship, and love. Even in her last days, she thought of others before herself, fussing at her family and her care givers to get some rest and not to worry about her.
She and Ken were devoted Christians. They were both members of Spring Baptist Church for over 40 years and enjoyed many years of happy fellowship there. She especially loved her Bible studies and fellowship groups and was very active in them.
Doris was preceded in death by her mother and father, brothers Tommy Lee Fogle, Richard Fogle and Robert Fogle. Sisters Goldean Straughan, Beth Collins and Yvonne Townsend. She is survived by by her husband Ken, son Kenny Owens and his wife Lori, her daughter Julie Strawn and husband Kent, granddaughters Katie Owens, Meagan Owens, Alexandria Fischer, Sara Strawn, son in law Michael Fischer, sisters Barbara Gerland and LaNell James, special niece Linda Henry, and numerous other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
