Doris Katheryn Quast Hall was born in Rolla, North Dakota on February 27, 1928 to Rev. Emil and Lillian Quast. Doris was the sixth of eight children. She graduated from Creighton High School in Creighton, Nebraska in 1945. After high school, Doris taught in a one room schoolhouse in Nebraska at the age of 17. She then attended St. John’s College in Winfield, Kansas. In 1947 she boarded a train bound for Houston, Texas where she was called to teach fourth and fifth grades at Bethany Lutheran School. While at Bethany Lutheran Church, she met and fell in love with Wilmer Hall, a fellow member of the Walther League. One year later, in 1949, they became engaged. On June 11, 1950, Wilmer and Doris were married at Bethany Lutheran Church in Houston.
Wilmer and Doris were the proud parents of five children and were active in their parish churches, Bethany Lutheran, Our Redeemer Lutheran and Beautiful Savior Lutheran, all in Houston. They lived together in the same house that Wilmer had built before they were married until Wilmer’s death in July, 1997. Doris moved to Spring, Texas in 2005 and was an active member of Resurrection Lutheran Church.
Doris is survived by her brother, Eugene Quast, daughter Georgia Williams, daughter Glenna McLane (Don), daughter Virginia Mentz (Stephen), son Gregory Hall (Julia), and son Stuart Hall (Terri). She is also survived by ten grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and three step great-grandchildren.
Doris loved her husband, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. But above all, she loved her Lord Jesus Christ. Her faith was strong and her confidence was sure. Jesus had shown her how to live, how to die and how to rise again. Through God’s grace, Doris has now done all three. Praise be to Christ!
Graveside service will be held at Calvary Hill Cemetery on Saturday, January 14th at 3 pm, 21723 Aldine Westfield Road.
