Doris Marie Caldwell

Doris Marie Caldwell, 91, passed away October 29, 2011 in Houston, TX. Doris was born in Mankins, Texas on January 22, 1920 to Cecil W. Mankins and Susie Howard Mankins. Doris married James Daffan Caldwell on May 25, 1947. They moved to Houston in 1950. The two most important things in her life next to her family and friends were teaching and her Church. Doris taught the 4th Grade at Emerson Elementary School in HISD for 20 plus years. She taught previously at Holliday, Texas and Corpus Christi, Texas. She also was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church since 1954 where she was very active in the United Methodist Women’s organization. Doris graduated from North Texas State Teachers College in 1941. Doris is preceded in death by her husband, James Daffan Caldwell and son David Brenan Caldwell. She is survived by her son, Cecil R. Caldwell; grandchildren, David James Caldwell & wife Amy, Christy Caldwell CoVan & husband Matthew, Trisha Caldwell

Sims & husband Kris; 7 great-grandchildren, Emily, Isabelle and Logan Caldwell, Bailee and Brynna Co Van, Madison and Kolton Sims.

Visitation will be held 6:00 pm to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, November 1st at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery. A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at 11:00 am at Bethany United Methodist Church, 3511 Linkwood, Houston, TX 77025. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Doris's name to Bethany United Methodist Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
