Donnie Sue was born on August 24, 1937 in Taft, Texas. She grew up in San Benito, in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas. She graduated from North Texas State University with a degree in Education and later completed a Master’s degree at Texas A&I. She added a counseling certification years later from Prairie View A&M. She worked for many years as a teacher, and coach, a driver’s education instructor and finally as a guidance counselor at Jersey Village High School. There, she was honored for her creation and continued work on the Young Woman’s Career Conference, a program designed to help at-risk young women. She retired in 1994 from the CyFair School District.
Donnie Sue was fiercely devoted to her friends and her family. She loved to garden, was interested in history and politics, and had a great passion for cooking. She loved her dogs, and especially schnauzers, having opened her heart and home to several over her lifetime. She enjoyed movies, particularly anything with a historical basis. She seemed to always be immaculately dressed, and enjoyed a variety of social activities with friends and loved ones.
Donnie Sue is survived by her partner of over 30 years, Nancy Orr; by her two nephews, Thomas C. Johnson, Jr and Andrew P. Johnson; and by numerous friends. She is preceded in death by her mother, Yvonne Johnson and her father, Dudley Johnson, as well as her brother, Thomas C. Johnson.
Donnie Sue will be buried at South Park Cemetery in Pearland, Texas, next to her brother and sister-in-law. A memorial service will be held at Pat H. Foley Funeral Home on September 29, 2018 at 11AM. All are welcome as we remember what a remarkable woman Donnie Sue was.
