Don was born on November 29, 1947 to Ralph Duane Springer & Jeanne Clair Springer in Lima, Ohio. He has an older brother Robert (Bob). The family moved to Houston, Texas in the 1950s. After graduating from Waltrip High School, he joined the Houston Police Department in 1967. Shortly after graduating from the Police Academy, he married Sharon Kay Merritt and they went on to have three children, Dona, Doug and Carrie.
He spent the next 39 years proudly protecting and serving the City of Houston as Police Officer and then later as the Division Manger for Fleet Maintenance.
Don loved the beautiful Texas Hill Country where he spent many summers and Thanksgivings camping with his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Jeanne and his loving wife of 44 years Kay.
He is survived by his older brother, Bob and his wife Pam Springer, daughter Dona and her husband Jason Slabbaert, son Doug and his wife Nancy Springer, daughter Carrie and her husband Joey Inglis. He was very proud of his 8 grandchildren Justin and his wife Agustina Inglis, Brandon Springer, Regan Inglis, Rylie and fiancé Preston Martin, Zach Springer, Darian Slabbaert, Kamryn Inglis, Alyssa Springer and 2 great-grandchildren Lane Martin and Paisley Martin.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Alzheimer’s Foundation of America or The Houston Police Foundation.
