Donald Bernard Muchaw, 84, devoted husband and loving father passed away peacefully on December 28, 2014 in Houston, TX; surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 30, 1930 in Troy, NY where he lived until 1945. The family moved to Superior WI till 1949. While there he enjoyed working on the Muchaw family farm on weekends and in the summer.
He graduated high school in Superior, then moved back to Troy in the summer of 1949. He received a Navy ROTC scholarship to Rice University and off he went to pursue his engineering career. During the summer of 1950 he spent time on the USS Charles H. Roan (DD-853) in the "Mighty MO" fleet.
While in Houston he met the love of his life and his wife of 63 years, Lena Gullo. Don worked for the Texas Highway Department (TXDOT) for 37 years as a civil engineer; where he was well respected. After retiring from the state, he held positions with Ebasco and Raytheon. He is preceded in death by his parents Dorothy and Felix Benjamin Muchaw and oldest son Michael Muchaw. He is survived by his wife Lena Gullo Muchaw, daughter Ginger Stephens (James), son Doug Muchaw (Donna), daughter Crystal Miozza (Ken), daughter Holly Wilson (Paul), daughter Heather Reid (Jimmy), son Ben Muchaw (Carrie) , Sister Jean Lampe (Warren), sister Mary Lou Anderson (Roy), 16 grandchildren, 10 great grand children, several nieces and nephews, and many friends.
Don was a devout Catholic, enjoyed the great outdoors, hunting, traveling, storytelling from days past, and had a deep appreciation for classic cars. He will be fondly remembered as manning the BBQ pit forever. Don enjoyed the beauty of each sunrise and sunset. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many. His presence as the patriarch of the family will be greatly missed.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Federation of Ectodermal Dysplasias. (www.nfed.org) or your favorite organization. Services will be held on Friday January 2, 2015 at St. Cyril's of Alexandria Catholic Church, (10503 Westheimer Rd., Houston, TX 77042).
