Don passed away Wednesday, June 27th at the age of 85, after a difficult 38-year battle against heart disease. Don is survived by his wife of 62 ½ years, Mildred, his daughters, Vickie and Brenda, special friend Sharon Hale, sister-in-law, Nancy Ellis and husband, Eddy, brother-in-law, Howell McConnell, numerous nieces, nephews and spouses, and his beloved cat Martie.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Pansy and Dan Imler, brother Dale Imler, sister Sharon Sarver and his “adopted British daughter, Sue Mott.”
Don was born in Kansas City, MO on June 14, 1933. After high school he was drafted into the US Army and was stationed in Austria. He was honorably discharged in May, 1955 with the rank of Sgt. On December 23, 1955 he married Mildred. He graduated from the University of Houston with a BS in Mechanical Engineering and was a Registered Professional Engineer.
Don was a definitely a family man who always put his family first. He loved spending time watching his girls playing sports, especially softball. He coached Brenda’s team for 7 years. His first passion was playing golf. He also enjoyed reading, classic cars, crossword and Sudoku puzzles, and later in life when he could no longer play golf, he found his second passion which was shooting craps. Many a fond memory was made in Las Vegas, Reno, Coushatta and Lauberge. He was much loved by his family and friends and is dearly missed.
A memorial service will be held July 10th at 10:30 am in the Audubon Clubhouse Classroom at Eagles Trace Retirement Community, 14703 Eagle Vista Dr., Houston, TX 77077.
