Donald Meade Hurd

Donald was born on April 3, 1932 in Antlers, Oklahoma, to Cecil and Beulah Hurd. Donald graduated from East Central University in Oklahoma with an accounting degree. Later he earned a degree in Business Administration from the University of Tulsa. He served in the army during peacetime, stationed in Germany. Donald married Glenn on December 27, 1953. He started his career at Carter Oil Company which would later be absorbed by Esso and ultimately Exxon. Donald helped build up the credit card services for Exxon.

Donald greatly enjoyed sports, playing football, baseball, and basketball in high school, baseball and intramural football in college, and then softball for decades after he began his career. He picked up snow-skiing later and it was difficult keeping him off the mountain. Donald also loved traveling with his wife and their friends, touring Europe multiple times, Asia, South America and visiting all 50 of the United States.

Donald was a doting grandfather, always up for adventure - skiing, playing with grandkids on Galveston beach, or cooking a new dish - and he never forgot a birthday.

Donald was a devoted Christian serving as deacon, elder, and board chair / member throughout his adult life, bringing numerous individuals to Christ. He was very dedicated to helping others in the church.

Services will be held at Forest Park Westheimer in Houston on December 20, 2021. In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor to his favorite charities, Brite Divinity School at Texas Christian University or Wounded Warriors would be greatly appreciated.

Donald is survived by his wife, Glenn, son Donald II, daughter-in-law Cathy, granddaughter Stephanie Poonawala and her husband Hasan, granddaughter Laura Coleman and her husband Michael, and great-grandsons Alex Poonawala and William “Tripp” Coleman.

A visitation for Donald will be held Monday, December 20, 2021 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home, 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, TX 77077. A committal service will occur Monday, December 20, 2021 from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery, 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, TX 77077. A funeral service will occur Monday, December 20, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, TX 77077.
