Born August 29, 1924 in Port Arthur, Texas, Don was the second son of Fred Jones Guy and Lena Wright Felps Guy. Raised in Houston, Texas, he graduated from Aldine High School where he played football and attended the University of Houston.
Don proudly served as a Sergeant in U.S. Marines based in Hawaii during World War II.
On April 25, 1948, he married Esther Bergt. Together they moved from California back to Don’s hometown where he began his civilian career as an auditor for the State Comptroller Department.
In 1960, Don, Esther, and their daughter, Dianna, spent six years in Rusk, Texas running a dairy farm. Life brought them back to Houston in 1966 and Don achieved the certifications to become a life underwriter for Metropolitan Insurance. During the 1970s, 80s, and 90s, Don and Esther owned and operated several health food stores across Houston. Don also worked security for M.D. Anderson Hospital during the 1980s.
Don was a good, honest man and a strong Christian. He enjoyed serving the Lord in many ways including lay preaching at the Salvation Army.
During retirement, Don and Esther enjoyed road trips across the Western U.S. to Colorado and loved visiting the mountains of Montana where Esther was raised.
Survived by his wife, Esther, and daughter, Dianna Rudolph, as well as other extended family members. Predeceased by parents and brother, Robert Jones Guy.
A viewing will be held Tuesday, September 12, from 1 to 2 pm at Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home. Following, a private graveside service will take place at 2 pm.
