He was born in Houston, Texas on July 25, 1940, to Mildred Marie Dupuis Guidry and Joseph Dudley Guidry. Don graduated from Marian High School. After graduation, Don entered the Navy, where he became a diver and traveled the world. Don served in the Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. He was very proud of his service to his country and often told stories of it. After returning from the Navy, Don attended San Jacinto College where he studied to become a draftsman. Don then worked his entire career as a draftsman for multiple oil and gas companies in the Houston area.
Throughout his life, Don lived in Houston, Pasadena, and Galveston, Texas. Don’s first love was music. He could play multiple instruments, including the piano, guitar, and his beloved accordion. Being able to play by ear, Don could learn almost any song and play it with ease. He taught music over the years and often played in bars and honky-tonks in the Houston area. Don had a young spirit and was the life of the party. His hearty laugh and his big smile were contagious. He knew how to make people laugh and he greatly enjoyed doing so.
Don enjoyed the outdoors, often camping on the beach or in the woods. Convinced that he would find treasure, he loved walking the beach with his metal detector. After all, Don’s motto was “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure!”
