Donald Edward Burroughs

Don graduated from Boulder High School in 1957 and joined the US Army in 1958 and served in Germany. Later, he earned his Associate of Science degree in Nuclear Technology from Metro State College/University of Colorado and a degree in Business Administration from Central Michigan State University. His professional affiliations include the American Nuclear Society and the Health Physics Society. Don worked for 53 years in the nuclear industry with Rocky Flats, Dow Chemical, Chem-Nuclear Systems, Duratek Corporation, and Diversified Technologies. Don received his ASME Sarge Ozker Award in 2015 for his distinguished service and eminent achievement in the nuclear power/energy field of radioactive management.

Don was married to Patsy Burroughs for 28 years and they enjoyed their life and home together in Houston, Texas. Don enjoyed traveling and visiting friends and family through the years. He enjoyed boating and RVing. At home, he liked home renovation, yard work, and collecting model antique cars. He was an avid reader and a faithful political news enthusiast and was known for making the best homemade pizzas. He was a generous and kind man and cared deeply for his family, friends, and neighbors. Don was full of life and love and had a keen sense of humor even in his last days.

Don is preceded in death by his wife of 28 years, Patsy N. Burroughs (7/5/2020), and is survived by his daughters: Vicki Burroughs of Bessemer, Alabama, Kristi Schwisow and husband Jay of Bowie, Texas, and Cindy and husband Marty of Klein, Texas. He is survived by his grandchildren: Kayla & Clint Barker, Joshua & Jessica Schwisow, Mercy Schwisow, Melissa Schwisow, Peyton Schott, and Spencer Schott, and his great-grandchildren Jerusha, Norah, Charlotte, Samuel, and Lucy Schwisow, and Celeste and Alexis Barker.

He is survived by his sister Nancy Bellitt and husband Bob, brother Ray, brother Michael and his wife Joann.

Don passed peacefully at his home to be with his LORD Jesus, holding the hand of his oldest daughter, Vicki on August 2, 2023.

A visitation for Donald will be held Tuesday, August 15, 2023 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, August 15, 2023 from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038. A committal service will occur Tuesday, August 15, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston, TX 77038.
