Don Schmidt, 52, departed for the ultimate putting green in Heaven on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Houston, Texas. He was born April 12, 1961 in Flagstaff, Arizona to Molly and Jack Schmidt, predeceased. He married his soul mate, Penny Warren on June 11, 1983 in Houston, Texas. Also surviving is his adored daughter Jessi Schmidt; his twin brother Dan Schmidt, his wife Amy and their daughters Molly and Cecelia; a niece Tiffany Schmidt Brooks, husband Ryan and their children Kenzie, Colin, Ava and Logan; his sister-in-law Cheryl Schmidt Stahl and her husband Bob Stahl; stepmother Opal Schmidt; preceded in death by his brother Jerry Schmidt and niece Steffany Schmidt.
He is also survived by his loving Warren family, his in-laws, whom he considered his parents, Claudia and Larry Warren along with their five children, Larry Warren, his wife Kim and sons Beau and Matt; Kathy Warren Guerra, her husband Leo and their daughters Kaitlin and Lyndal; Debbie Warren Kuithe, her husband Dennis and their children Brenna, Blake and Brant; and Karen Warren Counter, her husband Ron and their daughter Kari.
Some of his most treasured family members were his four-legged babies, Jackson, Maxx, Remi, Ladybug and the newest member Charli.
Don worked at KBR for 24 years and was the Coordinator for the Electrical Tools Group. His coworkers were also special friends and golf buddies.
He had a love for golf, camping, cooking, growing peppers, sitting on his back porch, guitars, music, coins, guns, watches, automobiles, birds, history, traveling, The Hill Country, Hebbronville, Arizona and he loved teasing others.
Don loved his family, friends and coworkers. He was a generous, sensitive man with an incredible sense of humor and will be deeply missed by every life he touched.
The family appreciated the loving care and attention the nurses and doctors at St. Luke’s Hospital gave Don and the family during his five week stay.
A Celebration of Don’s Life will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at 12:30pm in the Chapel at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77079. Please come in your most comfortable clothes. In Don’s eyes that would include shorts, jeans and colorful clothing. The family has requested no suits, ties or full black attire.
