Don Kirby Morris, age 86, died Wednesday, December 22, 2010 in Houston surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Virginia Lee Morris, with whom he recently celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary.
Born in Russellville, Arkansas, son of the late William Henry Morris and Lottie (Kirby) Morris, he resided in Houston for 73 years. He was a graduate of Milby High school. Don was a proud World War II veteran, serving in the Pacific theatre while in the Navy Seabees. He attended the University of Houston after the war.
He was a member of Memorial Church of Christ since 1977. Prior to that, Don and Virginia attended Southeast Church of Christ where he served as an Elder for many years. His faith was the central pillar of his life. Don was secure in his trust and relationship with Jesus.
Don was a real entrepreneur and loved his profession. He founded Industrial Design Services, an engineering consulting company in 1962. In 1986, Don, Virginia and Bill Morris founded Morris and Associates, Engineers, Inc. (M&A) He retired from M&A in 1994.
Don was a loving husband and father. He loved traveling and the outdoors and passed his love of nature down to generations. He loved to fish and work on projects at his ranch in Caldwell. He was very social and a lover of people. He never met a stranger and was very generous. He loved to entertain.
In addition to his wife, Virginia, he leaves his son William (Bill) Morris, his daughter Shari Manning and Her Husband Chris. Grandchildren: Sarah Morris, Jennifer (Manning) Champagne, Will Morris, Jessica Manning and Morgan (Manning) Codiz. Don was especially proud of his first great-grandson, Reagan Codiz. Don is also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours are Sunday, December 26th from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held Monday, December 27th at 11:00 am at Memorial Church of Christ, 900 Echo Lane, Houston, TX 77024. Burial following in Forrest Park Lawndale Cemetery, 6900 Lawndale,
Houston, TX 77023.
