A sixth generation Houstonian, Diana was born on the 9th of September 1939, to Joseph and Rose Hornberger. She spent eight summers at Camp Waldemar and graduated from Lamar High School in 1958. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Math and Education from the University of Texas in 1962 where she was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and lived at Hardin House.
After teaching elementary school for several years, Diana married the love of her life, John H. Munson, Jr., on the 25th of April 1968, at St. Anne Catholic Church. They were blessed with the arrival of two daughters. Her family, including her granddaughter, was her greatest joy.
Her Catholic faith, education, and family were important pillars throughout her life. In later years when her mobility declined, she enjoyed watching movies from her extensive DVD library, keeping up with various golfers, and cheering on the UT and A&M football teams.
Diana is preceded in death by her parents; and her parents-in-law, John and Billie Munson. She is survived by her husband, John Munson; her daughters, Diana Kayser and her husband Aaron Kayser, and Nancy Munson and her husband Trieu Nguyen; her granddaughter, Anna Kayser; her brothers, Joseph Hornberger III, Ronald Hornberger and sister-in-law Sandra Hornberger, and Gary Hornberger; her niece and nephews, Kristina Somerville, David Hornberger, and Joseph Hornberger; and many more cousins and family members.
Her family wishes to extend their gratitude to her caregivers, especially the doctors and nurses at Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center.
A blessing and funeral service was conducted this past Thursday, the 30th of June, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons followed by a burial in the Munson Family Cemetery in Bailey’s Prairie, Texas.
Serving as honorary pallbearers were Ronald Hornberger, Gary Hornberger, Aaron Kayser, Trieu Nguyen, Joe Munson, George Munson, Guy Ford, and Bob Brown.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at a later date.
