Deo Thompson Davis Dawson, 90, entered eternal rest on July 13, 2024, in Splendora, Texas. She was born May 10, 1934, in Taylor, Arkansas to Harvey & Lydia Thompson. She married Robert Isaac Davis on June 17, 1950, in Taylor, Arkansas. They moved their family to Houston in 1955 and later to Splendora in 1969. Sadly, Robert passed in 1988. Marrying Jack Dawson on August 13, 1991, she remained happily married until his passing.
In her children’s adolescent years, Deo was a homemaker. Her home was often filled with teenage boys whom she fed before and after ballgames. The time she spent caring for her family led to a passion for cleaning. She turned this passion into a career in 1975 when she started her own cleaning company providing service in Splendora and surrounding towns. Deo was a dedicated member of Plum Grove Assembly of God since 1978. In 1990, she became the Director of Facilities Management, making sure the Church was ready for service every Sunday. Deo’s commitment to her position at Plum Grove lasted until 2014, when she retired at the age of 80. Throughout her years at Plum Grove Assembly, she also served as the Director of the Touching Heart Ministries, Vice President of the Women’s Ministry, and contributed to many other organizations.
Over the course of Deo’s 90 years, she witnessed a multitude of world events. She survived the depression era, many wars, 15 US Presidents, the Covid pandemic, and the turn of the century. Deo and Robert raised their children throughout the 60’s revolution, well into the 1980’s, spending over 30 years together building a family legacy. She loved attending church services & events, hanging out with grandchildren, celebrating any and every holiday with family gatherings, cooking, playing games and making her daily calls to check on her family and friends. She was an avid Facebook user, posting a daily scripture sharing Jesus with all who would read it. She served her family and community with love and kindness.
