You were a beautiful person with a beautiful soul!

To the Brown and Edge families:

I met Denise in 1993 while working with her in the residence halls at SIU-C.  She was truly an amazing person. She was always calm and cool in a crisis situation, and mature far beyond her years.  Denise was laid back, and simply the type of person people all looked to for guidance. I will always remember Denise as one of the few people who always made a positive difference in the lives of  the people she met, and I am thankful to have known her.  

I pray God gives you all strength, guidance, and comfort in the days and years ahead.

I do not know you, but I know your son, Emmett.  I am his journalism teacher in Long Beach.  If children are a direct reflection of their parents, then I do know that you are a kind, intelligent, and loving person because Emmett exhibits all of those qualities as well.

To my sweet Denise,

You are dancing with the angels now over God’s Heavenly golden shores. I’m writing this loving memoir to you because I know that you are reading it from above. From the day I met you as one of my Resident Advisors, I knew then how much of an influence you would have on my life. You first opened your arms to me when I was so frustrated over gaining the “Freshman 15.” You calmed me down with your bubbly laugh when you said, “Well the Rec Center is open”, and it didn’t stop there. When I thought I failed my first exam, you calmed me down again with that contagious bubbly laugh when you said, “It’ll be ok, Laurie, you don’t need to break down, it was a pop-quiz. The way you explain it, it wasn’t even graded.” Guess what, it didn’t stop there either. Your RA leadership skills inspired me to become an RA myself, and a few years later to become a Head Resident of an all female dormitory. Guess what, your love and friendship for me didn’t stop there either. I was blessed the day when you became my “Pledge Mom” as I aspired for candidacy of membership into our beloved sisterhood, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Guess what, it didn’t stop there, because it was a short while after that when you graced me with the honor of “Delta Doll”.  I am actually still enjoying the physical Delta Barbie Doll that you gave me to this day…and guess what, it still hasn’t stopped. The memory of our friendship, our sisterhood, and your beautiful laugh will always shine brightly in my heart. I love you and I miss you. Thank you Denise, for always being there for me.

Nise, my Pirateer sister, fellow Wildcat Cheerleader, & Black and Gold Dancer.....one of my good friends since 6th grade! You were  such a beautiful soul and gentle person from the day I met you in Elementary School! Your spirit, demeanor, and disposition has always been gentle and welcoming from the day I met you, up until your passing! This came as a shock..but God makes NO MISTAKES!  I had the pleasure of working with Denise at Lone Star College.  Talk about memories!!! .... The laughs and talks we use to have...oh she had this funny way of fussing at me. 🙋🏾‍♀️😁  
She was such a beautiful woman INSIDE AND OUTSIDE.  Rest in Heaven Denise!!! 

You will be greatly missed.  I remember seeing you back in high school.  Don't know if we talked or not. Last time I saw you was at the 25th Reunion.  Sadly I won't be able to see you but you will be remembered. 

I will forever be thankful for your part in this journey of life. I was happy to see you the last time you were home and I was hoping to see to you again soon.  I'm so sorry I'm not there to say goodbye in person.  I'm glad you're no longer suffering and you can rest now.  I love you. 

To a beautiful, sweet, loyal friend, wonderful mother, daughter and classmate. Denise the news of your passing has come to such a shock to us all. You will be dearly missed. My Dear Denise, all memories of you include your beautiful smile. Since kindergarten you have always been a beautiful person both inside and out. It was truly a blessing to see you a few years ago when we talked,  we hugged and said our goodbyes until next time.....until next time sweetie. 

Such a  thoughtful and kindhearted person. I never will forget the times walking home together when we were Washington Wildcats!!! All the laughs.  To the FAMILY,  Earth has no sorrow that HEAVEN can't heal!!! And we know that ALL things work together for good to them that LOVE GOD and to those who are the called according to HIS PURPOSE!!! WE LOVE HER BUT GOD LOVES HER MORE!!!

A sweet spirit! As a young teen I spent days at her and uncle Nate’s house. She always treated me like I was one of her own kids. And reached out to me when my mom passed.  She will truly be missed. Praying for the family. Love u all!

Wow My memory of you, a beautiful person.  We live right down the street from each growing up. I would see you from time to time next door at Mr. Brown house. We went to grammar school together (Washington Wildcats. We went to High School together (Proviso East Pirates. My condolences praying 
for the family .

You were the sweetest, kindest and prettiest older cousin. You always had a smile on your face. I admired you as a little girl watching you cheer. Words cannot explain the sadness I feel for your siblings, parents, and children!  You will always be in my memories!

I know all to well how much this loss hurts your family. I remember to this day your families presence during my time of loss and I'll never forget it. I considered you family.  Rest well. Wow my sister by marriage and sister by Wildcat blood. You were one of the most positive people I’ve had the pleasure of actually knowing. I always remember you telling me. “At the end of the day ask yourself what did you do productive today” That has always stuck with me and words I’ve lived by. You wanted to beat me at games sooo bad but I was never having it!!! I will admit you were a fierce competitor. You did win a few times lol. I love you.

Denise was one special friend that always had positive and kind words to say about anyone and any situation. D could turn your tears into a smile. She was our neighbor but always considered her as family. We shared so many laughs,tears, birthdays.. just great memories together with our families and children. Her heart was truly  genuine.  Remembering you will always be easy, but missing you will be a heartache. I will hold you tight in my heart until the joyous day we meet again.

I had the ultimate blessing of working with Denise at Lone Star CyFair campus. Denise was truly an amazing woman. She had a genuine concern for you and not just as a colleague but as a friend. 

Denise was smart, very knowledgeable of her role and was a natural leader. Everyone sought her out for the wise counsel she gave. Even knowing this and being told this often by myself  and others she wore humility as a garment. I had gained a true friend and anyone who knew her were blessed. 

Denise you will be missed, rest well in the arms of the Father.

To have neighbors  that you can call family is a blessing within itself.  Denise was a very kind and loving person  who always wore a smile in whatever situation.  She will be truly missed. GOD bless the  Edge and Brown family.
