Demetria Minerva Cullinan Johnson, fondly referred to as “Bebe”, passed away Saturday, November 19, 2022 in Houston, Texas at the age of 99. She was born July 24, 1923 in Washington DC, the last of eight children of Helen Wilkinson Cullinan and James Mary Cullinan.
Bebe was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Edward Johnson; son, Raymond Craig Johnson; sisters Sayde, Sis, Mary Jane and Alice; and brothers Bud, Doug and Dink.
Bebe is survived by her daughter, Kristie Johnson Trice; daughter-in-law, Annette Mattern Johnson; five grandchildren, Nicholas Trice, Christian Trice, Cullin Johnson, Taylor Brown, and Conner Johnson; and great grandchild, Levi Johnson.
Bebe sang and danced her way through life, performing in community war-time shows, making a record of “You Made Me Love You” as a young woman, teaching her children and grandchildren how to waltz and do the cha-cha, and singing in church choir. She was known for her lifelong love affair with chocolate - - some would say it was the secret to her longevity. Her passion and child-like giddiness for winning bingo jackpots kept her young and energized.
Her one true love in life, however, was her family. Bebe was a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, wife, mother and grandmother. She loved, nurtured, and cared for her family members through many of life’s challenging circumstances, with unwavering love and dedication. It is and always will be her greatest legacy.
The memorial service for Bebe will be held at 1:00pm Friday, December 2nd at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church with Dr. Tom Pace officiating. St. Luke’s is located at 3471 Westheimer Rd, Houston, TX 77027. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Luke’s United Methodist Church.
