Della grew up in Refugio, Texas and received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin. She was married in Paris, France in 1968. After raising four daughters, Della was a client associate with Merrill Lynch
Della is a woman known for her many gifts and passions. Her passion for cooking began as a newlywed in Paris and she continued her culinary education in Houston and enjoyed hosting dinners for her family and friends. Della had a profound appreciation for history and the arts, volunteering for many years as a docent at Bayou Bend and the Houston Ballet. Della was a true sports fanatic, especially when it came to the Longhorns. Della also enjoyed learning, was an avid reader and shared the challenge and camaraderie of her bridge group. Playing games with her grandchildren also brought Della great joy.
Della was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Clyde “Ike” Henderson; her sister, Judy Ann Lehmann; and grandmother, Adelia Dunlap. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Armand Hess; her mother, Julia Henderson Williamson; her daughters, Heather Hess, Leslie Hess Schievelbein, Catherine Hess Maxwell and Anne-Marie Hess; and her grandchildren, Kaitlin Agrons and Clifton Maxwell.
Della will be remembered for her limitless generosity, compassion and devotion to her family.
A memorial service is to be conducted at eleven o’clock in the morning on Tuesday, the 10th of September, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception to be held in the adjacent grand foyer.
At a later date, the family is to gather for an interment at Oakwood Cemetery in her hometown of Refugio, Texas.
