Debra Lynn "Mommy" Robertson, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2021 at home, Debra was surrounded by the spirit of God, her loving husband and her two beautiful daughters. Debra's beautiful SMILE and spirit of unwavering STRENGTH will live on in our hearts forevermore.
Born February 10, 1966 in Dallas,Texas at Parkland Hospital to parents Johnnie Mae Williams and Johnny B. Darden. She attended Dallas public schools, where she graduated in 1984 from Skyline Career Development High School. Debra continued her educational pursuits at Elcentro Community College, where she obtained an Associates Degree in Office Careers. Debra took her educational foundation on to Texas Woman's University (TWU) in Denton, Texas, where she received a Bachelor of Science in Business Management in 1992. Debra was able to achieve all of her educational accomplishments while working full time weekends at Baylor Medical Hospital in Dallas.
After graduating from Texas Woman's, Debra sought out employment to fill the weekdays while she wasn't working at Baylor Hospital on the weekends, that pursuit, led her to employment at Sea-Land
Service Inc., where she met Van, it was love at first sight. Debra and Van were married September 24th 1994, they began their married life together in Houston, Texas. On January 6th 1997, Debra gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, Shelby Malynn (24) and on May 16th 2000 she gave birth to another beautiful baby girl Savannah Leigh (21). Debra LOVED her husband and adored being Mommy to her girls. Nothing gave her greater joy.
In n 2004, After working as a Customer Service Manager at Equal Net Communication and Safety Vision LLC, God led and guided Debra to her passion as a Special Educator where she became a Life Skills/ Special Education Teacher at the Dorothy Carlton Center in Cy Fair ISD. This is the school where she spent her entire 17 year career in education. Debra was a Team Leader, Mentor, Hospitality Leader, and Staff Development Liason to her peers. She loved helping her peers especially new teachers. Debra's TRUE LOVE and PASSION were her students. She always looked forward to going to work with a smile on her face. As an amazing testament to her dedication and passion to teaching, Debra was recognized as a Cy Fair ISD Spotlight Teacher in 2010-2011 and again in 2018-2019.
At the end of 2011, Debra was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer, as with most everything Debra fought the disease and treatment of the disease with a SMILE and SMILING SPIRIT. As long as, treatments could be scheduled in a way that she could spend time with her family and not miss time away from her kids at Carlton, was all that mattered. She is and will always be an amazing example of GRACE and STRENGTH through adversity. Debra was a dedicated and faithful member of McGee Chapel Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Walter K. - Berry and First Lady Sis. Vivian Berry. Debra loved her Sunday school class, Acts of Life Ministry where she served as assistant director and actress. She was a Vacation Bible school teacher and involved in many other ministries and activities at "The Chapel'~ where her smiling spirit will be deeply missed.
Debra is preceded in death by Dorothy Lee (Grandmother) and Autra Hill (Grandfather), Johnnie Mae Williams (Mother) and Johnny B. Darden (Father), Vernon Lee Robertson (Father-in-Law). Debra leaves to cherish her memory, Van Robertson (Husband), Shelby Malynn and Savannah Leigh (Daughters), Alice Robertson (Mother- In-Law), Brother- in-Law, Jason Robertson (Portia); Uncles Dave Whitaker; Alvoyd Whitaker and wife Lynne Adams-Whitaker. Debra is survived by her three siblings, Rosalind Harper, Gregory Harper, Arbra Joe Williams(Andria); Nephews: Devin, Chris, Justin, Jordan; Niece Jaycee; Aunt Ella Mae Brown (Hughie), along with a host of other relatives. She is also survived by her Special Sister(s)& Brother(s): Cynthia Byrd, Angela Sheffield, Andrea Hayes, Norman and Shannon Peters, Kimberly Thompson, Naressa Govender, Ruth Evans, Amanda Hermis, Dennis Flanigan, Douglas and Deanna Fuqua, Darrell and Angela Griffen, along with many many more family and
friends.
