Dean Kenneth Premer was born in Wooster, Ohio on Monday, January 22, 1923 to parents Kenneth and Lucile (Harmon) Premer. He passed away in Houston, Texas on Wednesday, December 14, 2015 at the age of 93.
A veteran of World War II, Dean served his country in the United States Navy from 1942 to 1946. He raced midget and sprint cars from 1948 until 1966, developing relationships with many of racings greatest legends. In his later years, he enjoyed time with his family especially the bonds created with his grandchildren.
Dean was a member of St. Matthew the Evangelist Catholic Church for 40 years. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 68 years, Zita Marie (Marthey) Premer and a grandson Collin. He is survived by his son, Michael Premer, Sr. and wife Gail of Houston, and daughter Patricia Boussum of California. Dean is also survived by six grandchildren, Michael, Jason, Heather, Christian, Nikki and Jaime, as well as eight great grandchildren and some very dear friends.
A Memorial Mass was celebrated by Reverend Martial Oya, at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 12, 2017 in the sanctuary of St. Matthew the Evangelist Catholic Church, 9915 Hollister in Houston.
Following a reception at the church, all were invited to attend the Rite of Committal at Houston National Cemetery at 1:00 p.m., where military honors were rendered by members of the United States Navy Honor Detail and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (V.F.W.) Post #8790 Honor Guard.
