Davis Glen Bennett, our loving dad, Pawpaw, and friend went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, April 30, 2022.
Glen was born June 20, 1936 in Keith, Texas to Davis Ed Bennett and Eunice Arcola Dudley Bennett. After spending his childhood in Iola, Texas, Glen lived around the Houston Heights and attended Hamilton Middle School and John H. Reagan High School. Upon graduation, Glen enjoyed his employment at Florian’s Minimax where he met the love of his life, Billie. They were married on September 1, 1956 and spent the happiest years of their life together. Glen remained in the grocery industry until his retirement in 1991. He and Billie started their retirement years at their new farm in Midway, Texas where family and friends gathered often to enjoy holidays, fish-frys and other various celebrations. Glen’s hobbies included raising cattle, mending fences, traveling, writing and publishing his novel, The Winds of Change.
It gives us peace in knowing that our dad is together again with his life-long love, our mom Billie, his parents and his brother, John Timothy Bennett.
Glen is survived by his three children: Terry Bennett and wife Kellye, Teresa Weekley and husband Jim, Lisa Hassbrock and husband Donald; his grandchildren who were his pride and joy: Jennifer (Blaze) Driver, Jim (Andrea) Weekley, Jason (Cyndel) Weekley, Jordan Bennett and Jacob Hassbrock; great-granddaughters, Lillian Weekley and Evelyn Weekley; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Debra and Edward Born, nieces, nephews and his best friend, “Smokey.”
Visitation will take place at Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home, 13102 North Freeway, Houston, Texas 77060 on Thursday, May 5, 2022, at 5:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at the Resthaven Chapel on Friday, May 6, 2022 at 10:00 am.
Pall bearers will be Glen’s nephews and close family friends: Jonathan Born, Tim Bennett, Darrell Nevill, James Tieman, Morgan John and Daniel Brashear; Honorary pall bearers: Charlie Weekley and Donald Blackwell
Our dad was the strength of our heart, the love in our laughter and the absolute, never-ending joy in our lives. We will miss him dearly.
Because of Glen’s great love for his four-legged friend “Smokey,” the family requests that donations be made to a local animal shelter of your choice, in lieu of flowers.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.earthmanresthavenfuneralhome.com for the Bennett family.
