David Lee Powell

David Lee was the son of Ben and Mattie (Phillips) Powell, born on November 5, 1937. He was raised in Houston, Texas, where he graduated from Jack Yates High School, Class of 1955.

David Lee married Betty Jean Jackson (Dee) and from that union five children were born.

David Lee worked and retired from Union Carbide, now Dow Chemical. He was a true renaissance man. Whatever was needed at the time… plumber, electrician, carpenter, mechanic, he had the necessary skills to complete the job. David Lee was also an aficionado of cards and dominoes.

David Lee had eleven siblings who preceded him in death: brothers, Bura, Nathaniel, Elsworth, Louis (Buddy), Jack, and Henry (Hoot); sisters, Leola Little, Fredricka (Fred) Sparks, Eliza (Dear) Idlebird, Bennie Williams and Dorothy (Dot) Gosey. One granddaughter, Telishia (Tee) Hamilton, also preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Betty Jean. Children: Kevin (Anita), Sherman (Jovino), DeShanda (Clifton), David Vincent (Michelle), and Derek Todd (Ann). Grandchildren: ShaRhonda, DeDonya (Alfred), Shantell, Tiffany, DeVon, Derek Todd, Derrius, Vincent (Ebony), Anitra, Desmond, Jasmine (Aaron), Derek and Christian. Great-grandchildren: Cameron, Caleb, Jaydah, Jayden, Dedrick, Iyanna, Michael, Peyton, Ava, Derek, Jr., Dacari, DeAngelo, Deon, Deston and Deleon. Also survived by two sister-in-laws, Vera and Sallie and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

A visitation for David will be held Tuesday, April 11, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Paradise Funeral Home, Inc, 10401 West Montgomery, Houston, TX 77088. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, April 11, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 10401 West Montgomery, Houston, TX 77088. A paradise cemetery north will occur Tuesday, April 11, 2023 from 12:15 PM to 12:45 PM at External Service Location, 10410 W Montgomery Rd, Houston, TX 77088.
