David Leal Lopez, age 74, born April 18, 1948 in Houston, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, December 7, 2022. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many. His kindness, love, and generosity will always be remembered. He is preceded in death by his parents Antonio and Aurora Lopez, his sister Sylvia L Torres, his son Mitchell Ray Verastigue, and his ex-wife Esperanza V. Lopez. He is survived by his son David Anthony Lopez, his daughter in law Isabel M. Verastigue, his grandsons Mitchell Ray Verastigue Jr and Jordan Michael Verastigue, and his siblings Antonio V Lopez Jr (Sally Lopez), John Ernest Lopez (Nora Flores), Felix L Lopez (Mary E Lopez), Linda L Lopez, Elida L Lopez, Gloria Ann Chavez (Mario Chavez), Andrea Lopez-Hernandez and numerous nieces and nephews.
He graduated from the University of Houston with a Masters in Architectural Engineering. He had a rewarding career working for Exxon, Gilbane, and finally retiring from the Harris County Sheriff’s Dept. as Infrastructure Manager. He was a member of the Go Tejano Committee and the Ft Bend County Vaqueros Trail Riders. He participated in multiple trail rides with his beloved horse Contessa. He loved fishing, riding horses, hunting, camping, playing guitar, dancing, and traveling but most importantly, he loved spending time with his family and friends. He will truly be missed.
