For most people, October 29, 1953 was a day like any other day. For Thelma and David Jones, Sr. it was the birth of their son, David C. Jones, Jr. David grew up in Houston, Texas, attending James D. Ryan Jr. High School and Jack Yates Senior High School. At Yates, he joined the ROTC and because of that experience, he later joined the United States Army as an officer. As the only male with six sisters (three older and three younger), he took on the role of "protector" and he took it seriously. At school, his younger siblings couldn't get away with much. As the years went by, that particular aspect of his personality did not diminish, but extended to include taking care of his mother. He graduated from Yates and went on to graduate from the University of Houston with a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering. He loved engineering and continued working in the field, with his last employer being Lippke Cartwright & Roberts Consulting Engineers. He loved sports, particularly playing softball. He competed on several city-wide leagues. He loved watching football and basketball and was a fan of both, the Houston Texans and the Houston Rockets. At family gatherings, he affectionately became known as the Music Man because of his love for collecting all kinds of music, especially the Blues. Family and friends could always be assured that whatever favorite song or musical selection you wanted to hear, he would have it for your enjoyment. He also believed himself to be the "ultimate" Domino and Bid Whist player. David leaves behind five sisters, nine nieces and nephews; nine great-nieces and nephews and a multitude of cousins, extended family and friends. Rest in the Lord, David. We will see you later.
