Bishop David Harrison was born on December 22, 1956 to the late Moses Lee Mitchell Sr.(father) and Rogester Powell Mallett (mother). Before day break on Monday, April 24, 2023, he departed this life, and his spirit went back to God. Bishop died at home peacefully surrounded by his loved ones. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, brother (Moses L. Mitchell, Jr.), and sister (Jeanette Booker).
He attended Beaumont Public Schools and graduated from Charlton-Pollard High School in May 1975. He received an Associate Degree in Mid-Management/ Marketing/Salesmanship in 1978. Then He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Bible Theology in May 1979.
Bishop Harrison accepted Christ at the age of 8 years old in Beaumont, Texas in June of 1964, under the pastorage of Overseer T. A. McDaniel. He was called into the ministry on August 15, 1972, and ordained at a District Convention in Lubbock, Texas. He has been in the ministry for 51 years, and served as a pastor for 48 years. Bishop received Pastoral Appointments’ given on a year-to-year basis in the Church of the Living God (C.W.F.F.) Brotherhood to the following churches: Dennison, TX; Lufkin, TX; Dallas, TX; Detroit, MI; and Lubbock, TX in (October, 1975 to December, 1988). Bishop organized a church in Slaton, TX. He organized a church in his home, due to the job transfer to Houston, TX; he also setup the Church of the Living God, P.G.T. in Huntington, TX in (June,1989). From November 1989 until his death, Bishop Harrison served as Pastor, Overseer, and Bishop at the General Assembly Church of the Living God, P.G. T., Temple #26 in Houston, TX . He was the author of 24 religious books.
His childhood sweetheart was Myrtle Marie Cross, and they married July 25, 1975. Their love was strong for over 53 years. This union brought the birth of two beautiful daughters. From May, 1975 to August, 1977, Bishop Harrison served as the store manager of Lynn’s Sak-N-Pak Grocery in Port Arthur, TX. From August, 1977 to November 1978, he served as a District Sales Manager/Supervisor for Beaumont Enterprise & Journal Newspaper. From December 1978 to February 1998, Bishop held various positions as an Agent, a Manager, or even a District Manager in the following companies: (Herald Life Insurance, Southwestern General Ins., Commonwealth Ins., American National Ins., Universal Life Ins., and Atlanta Life Ins. Company).
Bishop D. L. Harrison leaves to cherish his memories: a devoted wife, Myrtle Harrison; two daughters: Letitia & Rogester Harrison; sisters: Erma Dyes and Janice Coney of Beaumont, Texas, Linda Johnson of Los Angeles, California ,and Felicia (Calvin) Aldridge of Cleburne, Texas; one brother: Homer Harrison of Houston, Texas; two sisters-in-law: Carolyn Mayfield and Barbara Barry of Beaumont, Texas.
A graveside service for Bishop Harrison will be held on Friday, May 5, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Brookside Memorial Park, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039.
