David E. Dickerson, Sr., 91, passed away on Tuesday, September 1, 2015. Born David Emmanuel Dickerson on January 8, 1924, in New York City, Dave graduated as valedictorian from Balboa High School in the Panama Canal Zone, where he was a part of the largest (Morrison) family there. He attended the University of Texas until enlisting in the Army Air Corps during WWII. Dave became a combat fighter pilot flying P-38’s in the Philippines and New Guinea and left the service as a 1st Lieutenant. He then finished his BS in Business at UT and retired as Comptroller from Worth Electric Co. in Houston. Dave was a life-long tennis player and fan. He also took great pleasure in the lives of his five grandchildren.
Dave is preceded in death by his mother, Frances M. Morrison, and his sister, Flora Belle Helmerichs. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Mary Jane Dickerson; daughter Debbi Dickerson and Larry Cox of Kissimmee, FL; daughter Denise Adams and husband Charles of Houston; son David E. Dickerson, Jr. and wife Lori of Lake Worth, TX; son Douglas E. Dickerson and Tammy Nixon of Rockport, TX; special cousins Bud Huldtquist of Dothan, AL, Susan Rathgeber and Vicki May of Houston; niece Cristina Helmerichs and nephew Fred Helmerichs and his wife Robin and son Travis of Austin, TX. Also surviving are stepchildren Julie Delchini and husband John of Martinez, CA; Bill Stabler of Houston; and Doug Stabler and wife Tammy of Houston. Grandchildren who survive are Christina and Alexander Adams of Houston; David E. Dickerson III and his mother, Laura Dickerson-Harvey, of Sugar Land, TX; Lisa Laurenzo and husband Carlo and their daughters Ruby and Maya of Houston.
A memorial service will be at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, September 8, 2015, in the chapel of Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church, 11612 Memorial Drive, Houston, TX with Rev. Dr. Alf Halvorson officiating. A reception will follow in the Parlor at the church.
