Born on the 12th of September 1926, David lived a long and wonderful life full of family and friends. He was born in Yoakum, Texas, where he lived as a young child before moving to Houston with his family. After graduating from high school, David joined the Navy. He proudly served his country aboard the USS Neshoba. During WW II, David fought at both Iwo Jima and Okinawa. He was a proud member of the Greatest Generation and exemplified all that it meant.
After WW II, David met and married the love of his life, Mary Elizabeth Maples. They were married for 66 years. David and Mary traveled the world together with many friends. David loved his family and was a fierce protector. He was particularly proud of his five grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. He always boasted there was "not a cull in the bunch."
David had a successful career in commercial real estate that spanned 50+ years. David was very active in Masonry for over 50 years. During that time, he was a member and master of Houston Lodge No. 1189, a 33rd degree member of the Houston Valley of the Scottish Rite, and a member and director of Court No. 136 of the Royal Order of Jesters. David was also elected to be a member of and was Sovereign of the Red Cross of Constantine. He was also a member of the Arabia Shriners and the York Rite. David exemplified all that it meant to be a Mason.
David is preceded in death by his parents; David Emmett Cudd, Sr., and Emma Lou Cudd, his beloved wife, Mary Elizabeth Cudd, and his daughter, Mary Diane Schalles. He is survived by his daughter, Patti Fox; grandchildren; George Schalles (Eva), Jennifer Schalles Whitmarsh (Steve), Brian Fox (Catherine), Lindsey Fox Bates (Ross), and Stephen Fox (Georgia). He is also survived by his ten great-grandchildren, Paisley Schalles, Anson Schalles, Braden Whitmarsh, Taylor Whitmarsh, Emory Whitmarsh, William Fox, Andrew Fox, Miles Bates, Stella Bates, and Win Schalles, and his wonderful son-in-law George Schalles, III.
A funeral service is to be conducted at eleven o’clock in the morning on Friday, the 22nd of June 2018, in the Jasek Chapel at Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
The interment will follow, via an escorted cortege, at Rosewood Cemetery in Humble.
