Darrell Wayne Harlan, Sr., the Lord’s gift to Boyace and Margaret Harlan, was born October 31, 1959 in Houston, Texas. At the early age of nine, Darrell accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized in 1968 at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church. He was later united with his “home church”, Northside Antioch Baptist Church, where he attended for the majority of his youth and young adult life.
Darrell was raised in Houston, Texas and he graduated from Jefferson Davis High School in 1978. Growing up, Darrell enjoyed football. He proudly wore # 72 for the Jeff Davis Panthers. In 1986, Darrell graduated from Texas Southern University.
On July 19, 1986, Darrell married the love of his life, Tammie Elaine Clay. To this union two mighty men of God were born, Darrell Jr. and Desmond. He was a loving and devoted husband and father. Darrell was very gifted in many areas and always lent a helping hand to friends and family. For numerous years, Darrell worked as Lead Technician for Harlan Pest Control.
He worked as a Systems Engineer for NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration (via Unisys Corporation and United Space Alliance) for 25 years. In 2013, Darrell returned to his alma mater, TSU as a Network Administrator. Darrell loved moonlight at the Texas Southern University basketball games.
Darrell was a faithful servant at Grace Church, Houston, Texas where he served as an usher. Before uniting with Grace Church, Darrell was a faithful member of Mount Olive Baptist Church, Dickerson, Texas, were he served as Deacon.
He leaves to celebrate his life and cherish his memories, Wife Tammie Harlan; Sons—Darrell Jr. and Desmond Harlan; Brother, Boyace Van Harlan Jr.; Sisters—Lois Price, Jonez Harlan, and Janet Harlan; Best Friend—Keith Scott; Brother-In-Law, Ronald Price; Sister-In-Laws—Sylvia Harlan and Louise Harlan; Nieces—Margaret Creswell and Ruth Norris; Nephews— Renwick Harlan, Wendell Harlan, Matthew Harlan, Ryan Price, and a host of relatives and friends
