Darrell Phillip Green was born on May 23, 1956 to James H. Green and Lizzie Marie Green. He was the second of six children born to a union that lasted for 45 years until Lizzie's death. Darrell graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1974 and attended Prairie View A & M University. He worked for a major cable service provider from 1981 through 1997 when he left to pursue entrepreneurial projects. Darrell owned and operated Green's Real Pit Bar-B-Que until 2000. He also owned a successful shirt silk-screening business, D's T-Shirts. Darrell was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, raising cattle and working with his hands. He was a major sports fan who loved all levels of football, basketball, and track and field. Darrell was also very adept at working on construction and repair projects. For many years he worked very closely with his long-time friend Stephen Francis, owner of Francis Construction. In addition, Darrell was a dedicated confidant providing all manners of assistance throughout his friend's battle with terminal illness until Steve's death in May 2013. Since that date, Darrell was working full-time maintaining the residential and commercial rental properties owned by the Green family. Darrell was a member of Forest Lawn Missionary Baptist Church under the direction of Reverend R.C. Bell. Darrell died unexpectedly on Thursday morning April 17, 2014. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lizzie in 2000 and older brother, James Patrick in 2010. He is survived by his father, James who is in hospice care, brothers, Michael and Mark, sisters, Antoinette and Cynthia, and nephew, Michael II; as well as aunts, many cousins, and friends.
