Dan is preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Bruce Cass, Senior, and Edna Ruth Cass. Dan is survived by his wife, Wanda Phillips Cass and all of her family whom Dan lovingly “adopted”. Children: Wanda Maupin; Barton C. Maupin, Sr. and wife Jill; and George Goodman. Grandchildren: Felicia Taras; Britney Spaulding; Christopher Spaulding; Barton C. Maupin, Jr.; and Micah Maupin. Dan is survived by his sisters Mary L. Bell and Joanne Cass Short, his brother Carroll Cass and sister-in-law Judy, and 2 nephews, 8 nieces, and their families.
Dan was a generous, supportive, and loving son, brother, husband, father-figure, and uncle. He had such a contagious laugh that came from deep within and spread over the room. A farm-boy at heart, Dan and his siblings spent many summers helping the grandparents tend to their farm located near his birthplace.
Dan attended Stephen F. Austin High School in Houston, with sister Mary and brother Carroll. The family later moved to Humble, Texas, where he attended Charles Bender High School, and was in FFA. Dan spent many hours with family camping, boating, and fishing on Lake Houston. After graduating, the brothers enlisted into the U. S. Navy, and Dan became an aircraft jet-engine mechanic in the Pacific operational theatre. One of Dan’s pastimes was scuba-diving. An EA-3B reconnaissance aircraft he serviced is on display at The Vintage Flying Museum in Fort Worth. He was Honorably discharged in 1967. Near home, Dan rented a stable to keep his horses. Throughout the next forty years, Dan worked for NASA contractors at Ellington Field, servicing all of the NASA aircraft, such as the Astronauts’ T-38s displayed at the Space Center entrance, the KC-135 inside the Ellington Field entrance, and the WB-57 High Altitude Research plane.
Dan worked and trained diligently, and became a NDT Technician and Inspector. We will miss our beloved Dan, the life and times that we shared, and we will forever cherish and be grateful for his precious memories.
