Dale L. Terry, 78, of Magnolia Texas went to be with his Savior on December 22, 2018. Siegel and Emza (Spriggs) Terry welcomed Dale to the world on May 21, 1940 in Jackson, Ohio. He was the youngest of their 7 children.
At the age of nineteen, he joined the United States Navy where he worked as an electronics technician and achieved the rank of Petty Officer third class. Upon his discharge, he moved to Florida where he went to work in the aerospace Industry for Minneapolis Honeywell. During his time there, he was part of the team that built the guidance system for the Gemini space program.
On July 10, 1964, Dale married the love of his life, Bonnie Johannes. They had two daughters and a son together. They moved their family to Texas in 1976. Dale worked in the petrochemical field the remainder of his career, retiring from Exxon/Mobil in 2001. Dale was member of the Houston Northwest Poets Society, an eloquent orater and published poet. He had an uncanny ability to spin yarns and tell tales. He was also a lover of music, who enjoyed playing his guitar and singing. He never knew a stranger and was a friend to all. Dale was a patriot who loved his Heavenly Father, his country and Ohio State football. A true family man, he was happiest when surrounded by his loved ones.
He is survived by his wife Bonnie of 54 years, two daughters DeeDee Johnson and husband Darrell of Spring; Maureen Morris and husband Rich of Jacksonville, Florida . One son, Sean Terry and wife Keasha of Houston. Eight grandsons; Jordan Terry and wife Kristen, Kaleb Johnson and wife Val, Nicholas Terry and partner Ben, Zachary Terry, Hayden Trevino, Caleb Butler and wife Jordan, Holden Dale Butler, Dana Johnson. Great grandsons, Isaiah and Axl Dale. Sister, Mina Rife of Xenia, Ohio and numerous extended family members.
A visitation will be held in his honor on Thursday, January 3, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. inside the Chapel of American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77038. The family will be hosting a continental breakfast reception for those able to attend inside the Magnolia Room. The Celebration of Life service will commence at 11:30 a.m. after which Dale will be escorted to the Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77038, where he will be laid to rest with honors.
