Cindy is survived by her daughter, Joella Robinson, of Houston, Texas. She is also survived by her siblings and spouses, Nancy and Johnny Franz, Miriam and Steve Cihal, Jo Hanna, Marylynne and Phil Hodapp, Pat and Ann Hanna, Dennis and Denise Hanna, Ricky and Shirley Hanna, and Mark and Sonya Hanna, and numerous nieces and nephews who she considered her children. She was preceded in passing by her beloved parents, Rose Ellen and Mackey Hanna, two siblings Michael and Martha Hanna, and her niece Donna Selcer.
Cindy was born in Houston on the 15th of June 1939, the oldest of eleven children, and they were all raised in Van Vleck, Texas. Cindy graduated as the Valedictorian of Van Vleck High School and began attending the University of Saint Thomas on a Catholic-funded scholarship. While attending university, she met and married Joe Robinson, and they welcomed their only daughter, Joella Robinson, in 1964.
Cindy later began her employment with Royal Dutch Shell in Downtown Houston, where she eventually earned her Bachelor of Science in Accountancy from the University of Houston. Cindy built a long, rewarding career in the Stock Pipeline Accounting Division of Shell Oil and spent 30 years in a profession she loved. She would often point to One Shell Plaza, once the tallest building in Houston, and proudly proclaim that she worked there. Cindy loved the bustle of downtown, dressing up for “Go Texan” days and shopping at the department stores on Main Street. She cherished her time at Shell and the colleagues she partnered with during her career.
When Cindy retired, she purchased an old farmhouse in Hallettsville, Texas. She tirelessly restored the home and turned the acre of land into her own lovely garden. Her farmhouse became a central gathering place for friends and family, and she proudly shared it. She rarely missed the blooming of bluebonnets in spring, a beautiful summer sunset, or the International Quilt Festival in the fall, but her favorite time of year was Christmas. She enthusiastically collected Santa Clause figures and lavishly decorated her home for the season.
Cindy was an avid reader, historian, decorator, gardener, quilter, sewer, artist, and philanthropist. Her Catholic faith, cultivated at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Bay City, Texas, guided every facet of her life. Attending mass at Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church in Moravia, Texas, built by early Czech settlers, always satisfied her soul. We rejoice that her father's heavenly light now embraces her.
The family wants to thank the doctors and nurses of Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital for their dedicated care. Additionally, the Altus Hospice and Village Green of Memory Care of Cypress staff provided excellent care and comforted her in her final days. Finally, thank you to Sandra Roman, Shantesa Terrell Roman, and the family for lovingly caring for Cindy as their mother.
