Cynthia Elia Garcia Cruz, a beloved resident of Houston, Texas, passed away on July 15, 2023, at the age of 47. Born on August 18, 1975, in Houston, she was the daughter of Ramon Garcia, Jr. and Evangeline D. Garcia. Cindy graduated from Austin High School in 1994 and furthered her education at Houston Community College. In 2000, she married Jose L. Cruz, Jr., and the couple resided together in Houston, Texas, where they raised their cherished child, Jose L. Cruz, III.
Cindy is survived by her devoted husband, Jose L. Cruz, Jr., and their beloved son, Jose L. Cruz, III. She is also survived by her siblings, Ramon Garcia, III, Patricia Ann Flores, and Alexander Garcia. In addition, she leaves behind her dear in-laws, Nancy Casas Garcia, Mario Flores, Amy Elizabeth Smith, Jose and Yolanda Cruz, Laura and Inocencio Juarez, America Cruz, Maria and Ivan Stoneking. Cindy will also be remembered fondly by numerous aunts and uncles, nieces, nephews, and extended family members, who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts. Cindy’s love extended not only to her human family, but also to her beloved pet companion, Smokey. Smokey was Cindy’s loyal and devoted furry baby who stood faithfully by her side.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Ramon Garcia, and Celia Mandujano Garcia, as well as her maternal grandparents, Eriberto Davila and Emma Longoria Davila.
Throughout her professional life, Cindy dedicated 24 years to the City of Houston, working as a Senior Buyer. Her contributions were significant, and she will be remembered for her dedication and commitment to her work.
Outside of her career, Cindy had a passion for various artistic pursuits. She found joy in photography, capturing beautiful moments through her lens. Canvas painting was another creative outlet she embraced, expressing herself through colors and textures. Cindy had a unique fondness for collecting turtle figurines and pearls, which brought her great delight and added beauty to her life.
A viewing to pay respects and honor Cindy’s life will be held on Sunday, July 23, 2023, from 11am - 1pm, the Holy Rosary from 1pm – 2pm, and a Service from 2pm -3pm at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home, Grand Chapel, 6900 Lawndale Ave, Houston, TX 77023. Following the service, a reception will be held at Knights of Columbus, 3418 Preston Rd, Pasadena, TX 77505 from 3pm – 6pm, where family and friends can share memories and support one another during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Houston Zoo Sea Turtle Conservation Project, an organization close to Cindy’s heart.
