Curtis Alan Brooks, 64, passed away on Monday, July 5, 2021. He was born on November 26, 1956 in Houston, Texas to the late Zula Franklin and Elva Ganell Brooks. Curtis spent his childhood in the Heights and grew up playing baseball in the Heights Little League. Curtis and his family relocated to the Jersey Village area and he graduated from Jersey Village High School in 1976. While at school, Curtis was a multi-sport letterman for the Jersey Village Falcons, playing football and baseball, and was captain of the football team. Curtis went on to Lamar University where he was a student-athlete, playing football. Curtis had a deep entrepreneurial spirit and loved creating and building companies and was active in the real estate and billboard industry up until his death. Curtis married his loving wife, Loretta, in 1987, and together they raised a daughter who they both loved so deeply. While his daughter, Megan, was in school, he was active in the community at St. Francis Episcopal Day School where he was a t-ball coach for his daughter and her classmates. One of Curtis’ greatest passions was fishing and being out on the water. He was an avid fisherman and even created his own team, The Brooks Fishing Team, which, when the fish don’t bite, would transition to The Brooks Drinkin’ Team. Curtis will be forever remembered for his kind soul, huge heart, and sense of humor that kept everyone laughing. He had a special ability to know everybody and make everyone feel like family.
Curtis was preceded in death by his loving wife Loretta Darlene Brooks, and his siblings: Judy, Tommy, and Michael. Curtis is survived by his daughter whom he loved and adored, Megan Coleman, 31, her husband, Blake Coleman, and was an expectant PawPaw to a Granddaughter due in October 2021; his loving partner, Lucinda Kelley; and his many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Curtis will be incredibly missed by countless friends and family members whom he loved and cherished. Curtis will be forever missed, but we know that he is forever looking over us and guarding all whom he loved.
