Réne was born in Omaha, Nebraska to Koreen M. Palme and Charles M. Hough. She moved to Houston at the age of 19 and worked for Braniff Airways for almost 20 years as a Reservationist. One of her greatest passions was travel and from 1956 to 1983 she travelled the world. Her adventurous spirit took her to Hong Kong, Greece, Thailand, multiple countries in South America, and so many others. She met and married John Michael (deceased) on May, 5, 1959 and had three children, Stephen, Shawn, and Shannon.
Another of Réne’s passions was the Houston Astros. She was definitely a fangirl. She never missed a game and was ecstatic when she was able to go see them in person at Minute Maid park. Her love of the Astros was unmatched and unsurpassed, and she had the team gear to prove it!
Réne will be remembered for her unforgettable raspy voice, sense of humor, crossword puzzle mastery, but mostly for her love of her family. She considered herself extremely blessed and regarded her family in the highest esteem as her most prized accomplishment.
Her legacy and memory will live on through her surviving family members: Stephen, wife Sandra, grandchildren Sara (husband Kevin), Mary (husband Will), and Michael; Shawn, wife Sonya, grandchildren Daniel, David, and Kathryn; Shannon, husband Chris, grandchildren Jamison, Ashlyn, and Ayden.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, we ask for donations to be made to M.D.Anderson Cancer Research. Réne was specific regarding a memorial service, and requested none be held. Her immediate family gathered in her memory to share stories, pictures, and celebrate a life well lived. She will be deeply missed and always remembered.
