Cleota Lackey, 90, passed away in Nashville, TN on April 25th, 2014. She was born in Davenport, OK, on March 3rd, 1924, to Willard and Meldia Sowards. Cleota was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, two sisters; her daughter, Janelle Elaine Lackey; and her loving husband of 52 years, Charles Hanford (Hank) Lackey.
Cleota is survived by her son, Craig Lackey and wife Jane Lackey; her sister, Virginia Flippo; along with numerous other loving family members and friends. Cleota and Hank were charter members of Memorial Drive Christian Church in Houston, Texas.
Cleota Lackey attended the University of Oklahoma, majoring in fine art. Her interest in art began at a very early age and has permeated all of her life. Not only an accomplished painter, sculptor, jewelry maker and fiber artist, Cleota also taught art all her life to her beloved students who ranged in age from 9 to 90.
The memorial service will take place at Memorial Drive Christian Church on Saturday, May 3rd, 2014, at 4:00 PM with Rev. John Regan officiating. For those who choose, memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Drive Christian Church 11750 Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas
