Clark Richard Lockerd died at the age of 72 on January 9th 2024 after suffering a stroke. Born in 1951 in Great Falls, MT, to Benjamin G. Lockerd and Julianne M. Lockerd née Clark, he spent much of his youth in Wyoming. An unaccountably fortunate man from an early age, Clark met the love of his life, Janet Marie Wallace, in high school. They were married in 1972. After receiving his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Wyoming, Clark took a job with the Motorola corporation in Phoenix, AZ, the birthplace of their daughter Andrea Lyn Lockerd (Thomaz) in 1976.
Having learned that his mother, Judy was dying of cancer, Clark moved his young family to Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1976 in order to be near his parents and took a job with Occidental Petroleum (Oxy). While living in Tulsa, Clark and Jan were blessed with two more children: Scott Wallace Lockerd (1978) and Patrick Clark Lockerd (1980). Following his mother’s death, Clark accepted a position with Oxy in Houston, Texas, where he lived until his death.
His work for Oxy involved lengthy on-site project management in far flung places such as Oman, Yemen, Iraq, and Argentina. This experience stimulated his natural passion for history and geography. Though his work necessitated month-long stays away from home, Clark spent his months off making up for lost time by aggressively documenting his children’s and grandchildren’s many milestones and extra-curricular accomplishments. He also devoted considerable time to maintaining and improving Jan’s family cabin in Wyoming’s snowy range. In addition to working for Oxy, Clark also contributed his engineering expertise to the formation of the Mass Technology Corporation (Masstech).
When not ensuring that the world had a steady supply of oil, Clark spent much of his time addressing more quotidian engineering issues around not only his own house, but the houses and garages of children, relatives, friends, and neighbors. Clark never met a problem he thought he couldn’t solve and was always happy to drop what he was doing to help one of his children fix a broken-down car or advise a city electrical worker on the best method for restoring power to the neighborhood during a historic blackout. In retirement, Clark devoted his life to the betterment of and participation in the lives of his children and grandchildren. He was a mainstay on any sidelines of any of his grandkids soccer games where his videography skills were unmatched.
Clark died surrounded by family. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jan; his three children and their spouses Andrea and Edison Thomaz, Scott and Cherisse Lockerd, Patrick and Lori Lockerd; six grandchildren: Noah, Lucas, Owen, Stella, Wren, Cheryl; five siblings: Benjamin Lockerd, Joseph Lockerd, Rebecca Doll, Sr. Marie Paul Lockerd, RSM, and David Lockerd.
The funeral will take place on Friday January 12th at St. Edith Stein Catholic Church, 3311 N Fry Road, Katy, TX 77449, (Rosary at 2pm; Mass at 3pm) followed by a reception at Pine Forest Country Club at
