Clara Wylynn Schaeffler, 84, a lifelong Houston resident, passed away on November 23, 2021. She was born in Houston, April 14, 1937 and known to her many friends as “Willie.” Willie is survived by her three children, Karen Yvonne Pence of Houston, Gerald Charles Cabler, jr, of Houston, and Stuart Carleton Cabler of Wimberley; granddaughter Michelle Cabler, of Houston; siblings Theodore Alfred Dow, jr, Joe Lawrence Dow, and Vesta Sue Feldman. She was preceded in death by her high school sweetheart and first husband Gerald Charles Cabler; Frank Walter Schaeffler, her second husband of 40 years, her parents Theodore Dow and Vesta Dow, and her sister Donna Gail Navarro.
Willie was first married to Gerald Cabler on June 25, 1955 whom she lost in a tragic auto accident in 1964. With three small children to raise, she worked full time in the healthcare industry while also attending college full-time, graduating with a Bachelor's of Science in dietary science. She married Frank Schaeffler on October 10, 1970. In the 90’s she received her hard-earned dual Master’s Degrees in education and counseling, a precursor to her second life career as an elementary school teacher. Willie was an avid student of history, with familial roots that traced back 400 years to the first groups of English settlers. She was also a member of Daughters of the Republic of Texas and Daughters of the American Revolution.
Another highlight of Willie’s life was becoming a Grandmother, in 1996, when her first grandchild, Michelle, was born. Willie is survived by many nieces, nephews, and in-laws whom she adored. There are so many people whose lives have been touched and enriched through her kindness and love.
Throughout her life, she persevered and got things done, often through great hardship. She was always supportive of her children, dutiful and self-sacrificing, with a great sense of humor and a calm voice of reason. To them, Willie was a tower of strength and a light of goodness. She will be greatly missed, and our memories of her will echo that goodness and love that she planted in our hearts.
A visitation for Wylynn will be held Friday, December 3, 2021 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, TX 77023, followed by a funeral service from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, TX 77023.
