Died June 28, 2019, after an extended illness at her home in Deer Park, TX.
Preceded in death by her husband, Odin Edward Clay, Jr.
Graduated St. Agnes Academy in Houston, 1948. Worked school newspaper, served as member of orchestra and glee club. Earned many Continuing Education units from various colleges and universities.
Married Odin Edward Clay, Jr. in 1949. They were married for 68 years and had eight children: Edward Clay, Matthew Clay, Clara Dena Clay, Fredrick Clay, Dan Clay, John Clay, Anne Clay, Theresa Clay Ball. Numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Worshipped at St. Pius V Catholic Church and later at St. Mary of the Purification Catholic Church. Served in each church for more than 30 years.
Served the Pasadena Citizen Newspaper for 38 years as Editor and Reporter. Wrote column for 7 years entitled “Clara’s Comments.”
Received many writing and editing awards.
Served as President and Vice President of Texas Press Women, National Federation of Press Women Board of Directors, and member of The Press Club of Houston.
Maintained Lifetime Membership of Pasadena Little Theatre.
Directed, acted, sang, did makeup and publicity.
Received several Best Actress awards.
Co-recipient with husband of the Silver Cup for Service Award.
Enjoyed community involvement with Clear Lake Metropolitan Ballet, Daughters of the American Revolution, Pasadena Philharmonic Society, Pasadena Cultural Arts Council, Pasadena Garden Club, South Houston Garden Club, Houston Rose Society, Parkview Estates Garden Club, Porcelain Art Club of Houston, Pasadena Grandmother Club.
Declared “Clara Clay Day”by Pasadena Mayor and City Council on October 18, 1995.
