Cindy Lynn Gilbert Arrington passed away peacefully at home in Houston, Texas, on Monday, September 26, 2022. Cindy was sixty-eight years old, a native Houstonian, born on December 8, 1953. She is preceded in death by her parents, Roselyn Boosey Gilbert and Harold Thomas Gilbert, as well as her father-in-law Carl Bryant Arrington. Cindy is survived by her husband Steve Arrington, daughter Kaitlyn Arrington, step-son Corey Arrington, brother Billy Gilbert and wife Cathy, Mother-in-law Annie Ruth Arrington, brother-in-law Bradley Arrington and girlfriend Ann Marie Sweere, brother-in-law David Arrington and wife Gina, nieces and nephews Alana Gilbert Smith and Husband Kevin, Breana May-Phillips and partner Ashley, Stephanie Piazza and husband Jason, Kennedy Swift, Parker Swift, Connor Arrington, Charlie Aronowitz, Emma Arrington, Jack Arrington, and many great nieces and nephews, cousins, and loved ones.
Roselyn and Harold Gilbert adopted Cindy at birth. Though they were not her birth parents, that is the only way Cindy perceived them. Roselyn and Harold instilled in her a legacy of love, adoption, and faith that Cindy exemplified. Creating a genuine connection with others brought Cindy joy. When called upon, she went above and beyond to answer.
Cindy was raised in faith at Baptist Temple in the Heights. Where her Paternal Grandmother, Maude Gilbert, had been a founding member. Cindy would come to sing in the choir and later teach Sunday school.
She graduated from Scarborough High School in 1972. After graduation, Cindy started her career in the Harris County Clerk’s Office. She wore many hats throughout her career. She quickly moved from the clerk’s office to the courts. Cindy served as both general court staff and ultimately as court coordinator in Probate Court No.1. Later, Cindy took an opportunity to explore what life would be like as a paralegal in both probate and family law. Eventually, she returned to the county to complete her tenure in Probate Court No. 3, auditing final and annual accountings. Cindy successfully retired from the county in 2006. But it wasn’t until she began her career as a trust officer that she found her passion. As a trust officer, Cindy’s joy was being able to serve her clients, but specifically, special needs trust held a special place in her heart. That is where she found the most professional fulfillment.
One night in August 1973, A friend invited Cindy for dinner, where she met Steve Arrington. Steve would become the love of her life and best friend. She must have loved him because though she loved to dance, he didn’t. They married on June 22, 1974, at Baptist Temple. She gave birth to her daughter Kaitlyn in February of 1987. Though Cindy was a working mom, she was the best mom. She treated all of Kaitlyn’s friends as if they were her own. Cindy knew how to make every high tea, birthday party, and Christmas morning special. Christmas held a special place in Cindy’s heart. She extended this love to her nieces and nephews, so they lovingly referred to her as Santa Cindy. Also, in her free time, Cindy enjoyed traveling, especially around the Gulf Coast. She became an avid and accomplished saltwater fisher.
