Christine P. Bruce, beloved wife and mother, passed away in Houston, Texas on December 13, 2016. She was kind, entertaining, intelligent and opinionated, and intensely loyal to her family and countless friends.
Christine was born on November 22, 1939 in New York City, New York to Carl Peterson and Julia Coakley. She attended Ursuline Academy in New Orleans, Louisiana and the University of Houston in Houston, Texas. She married Robert Sanford Bruce of Ballinger, Texas on December 8, 1962. She devoted her life to raising their four children, and later worked in the retail book industry and became active in supporting a variety of charitable causes in Houston, her adopted hometown.
Christine is survived by her husband, Robert Sanford Bruce of Houston, Texas; her daughter, Julia B. Justice and son-in-law Richard Faig of Houston, Texas; her son, Robert E. Bruce and daughter-in-law Jennifer L. Bruce of Las Vegas, Nevada; her son, Carl M. Bruce and daughter-in-law Chanel Bruce of Houston, Texas; her son, David Y. Bruce and daughter-in-law Camila Bruce of Ft. Collins, Colorado; her granddaughter, Jenna C. Justice of Houston, Texas; her grandson, Cameron B. Justice of Houston, Texas; her grandson, William H.H. Bruce of Las Vegas, Nevada; her grandson, Robert S. Bruce II of Las Vegas, Nevada; and her grandson, Jonathan A. Bruce of Houston, Texas.
Christine’s family and friends will celebrate her life on Saturday, December 17 at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home and Cemetery, 13001 Katy Freeway in Houston, Texas, which will also be her final resting place. A visitation will commence at 11:00 AM, followed by a memorial celebration at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Christine’s memory may be made to Ronald McDonald House, 1907 Holcombe Blvd., Houston, TX 77030.
