Christina Suhey Barrera, 46, peacefully joined our heavenly Father on Tuesday, April 11th, 2023, surrounded by her family at her dream lake house in Conroe, Texas. She was a beloved wife, mother, daughter, cousin, and friend to many.
Christina was born on December 15th, 1976, in McAllen, Texas. Christina was raised in Mission, Texas by parents, Jose, and Margarita Renteria. She graduated from Mission High School in 1995 and proceeded to earn a degree in Criminal Justice from Sam Houston State University.
Christina was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in December of 2020. She remained optimistic through chemotherapy and clinical trials, living life to its fullest.
Over the past 23 years, she has had a very extensive and successful career in Federal Service. At the time of her death, she was the Civil Rights and Civil Liberties Program Manager with the Investigative Operation Directorate, U.S. Customs and Border Protection. She started her Federal career as a U.S. Border Patrol Agent in 2000 in Uvalde, Texas, where she met the love of her life, Cesar Garcia.
For all who knew Christina, knew she was a force to be reckoned with; a born leader- professionally and personally. Christina could also be described as a determined, career-driven, strong-willed woman with a genuine heart. She was a woman of loyalty and a protector of those she loved. She was a Houston Astros fanatic and had a love for everything music and artistry.
Christina is survived by her husband, Cesar Garcia; her daughter, Alyssa Victoria Barrera; stepson, Pablo Garcia; her parents, Jose and Margarita Solis Renteria; father, Roberto Barrera; half-brother, Marcos Barrera; and a host of beloved cousins, aunts and uncles.
She is preceded in death and reunited with her grandmother, Victoria Solis.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 17th, 2023, at Heights Funeral Home, 1317 Heights Blvd., Houston, Texas, 5:00-8:00pm. A second Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 19th, 2023, at Brown Family Funeral Home, 701 E. Expressway 83, Mission, Texas. 4:00-9:00pm with a 7 pm rosary
A Funeral Mass will be held in Mission, Texas at 10:00am on Thursday April 20th, 2023, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 620 North Dunlap Ave., Mission, Texas.
Services are under the direction of Brown Family Funeral Home.
