She leaves behind her loving husband of 30 years, Bruce Pollock. Their life together allowed them to truly live their vows through sickness and in health. Chloe Shi is survived by her sons: Darrick Reed and his wife Tina, and Devin Reed; daughter, Nikki Lawney; stepson, Brian Pollock and his wife, Paige. Also survived by her grandchildren: Daniel Reed and his wife Taylor, Carissa Reed, Jessica Reed and her husband Gio, Justin Reed, Ty Reed, Alyssa Witte; great grandchildren: Jaylah Reed, Tucker Reed, Mackenzie Reed, and Camdyn Long. And extended family and many friends.
Chloe Shi was born on December 21, 1944 in Oklahoma and lived in the small town of Wetumka. She lived on a 160 acre Indian land grant with her mother, Vickie Van and father, Floyd.
There they raised King Ranch Palmetto Stallions and showed them in Houston at the “Fat Stock Show and Rodeo” which has since been changed to the “Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.” Her grandmother and grandfather owned the Charles Hotel on Capitol Avenue in Downtown Houston across from the Colosseum, now the Courthouse.
Every year, the cowboys from all states would stay at their hotel. Chloe Shi loved the excitement of the Rodeo! Her mother always rode in the grand entry on a Paint Horse and one year, she was runner-up for Rodeo Queen and won a black and silver studded saddle! Of course, her father couldn’t make a living only raising and showing horses so he went to work as a Roughneck and then driller in the oil fields of Oklahoma. Finally, tired of being away from the farm, they moved to Houston when Chloe Shi was 12 years old. She loved the big city and bright lights but the dream of barrel racing and horses came to an end. On Sundays, she always attended church as far back as she could remember. When she was 12 years old, she visited the East Haven Baptist Church and the Holy Spirit really moved in her. She was Baptized.
She married in the Woodridge Baptist Church and then she and her husband attended Sagemont Baptist Church. Then, in later years, joined Houston’s First Bapist Church in 1989 and married Bruce Pollock in 1990 where they still attend. Chloe Shi and Bruce were married in San Antonio, Texas at the La Mansion Del Rio.
Chloe Shi and her mother both were an only child. Therefore, she did not have a large family.
Chloe Shi had three children, Darrick, Devin and Nikki. Raising her children is what made her the happiest. And Chloe Shi loved Christmas, her favorite time of the year, year around!
For those of you who are unable to attend, we know you will be there in Spirit.
